This is a great Steampunk outfit. We like that it comes off as casual and effortless, but with enough visual interest to stand out. It's also flattering for any body type.
The accessories keep this look interesting, adding just the right amount of edge. This woman is no shrinking violet; she is a badass.
This outfit is easy to recreate once you break it down piece by piece. You don't have to copy everything. Change a few pieces to put your own spin on it.
The model's shirt is a tan and white striped boatneck fitted top with 3/4 length sleeves. A variety of different colors would work here, from black and white striped to red and white striped. Blue or gray would look good, too. If you want something a little sexier, try a fitted off the shoulder top:
Harnesses are versatile accessories. You can wear them over almost anything, and they instantly add a sexy edginess. The model in the photo is wearing the
LED Light Harness, but her outfit would look just as good with an
arm wrap or
cleavage harness:
Corsets are popular in Steampunk fashion because they can give any woman a sexy hourglass shape, and that was the desired silhouette during the Victorian era (not much has changed). The model's vertical striped underbust corset provides a striking contrast to the horizontal stripes of her shirt. The corset's buckled straps create an added layer of texture:
A wide brown leather link belt slung loosely around her hips looks chic and effortless:
The model's long black ruffle skirt is raised high in the front, a style known as '
high low hem,' derived from Victorian Polonaise overskirts (worn over layers of petticoats). The modern Steampunk style forgoes the petticoats in favor of showing off some leg:
Most black leather knee high boots will look great with this outfit. You can choose a lace up style Victorian boot, or something sleek and simple like the model is wearing:
Goggles are fun, but there's something about monocles that seems so much cooler. They're almost villainous:
Don't get caught checking the time on your smart phone! Better to wrap a pocket watch chain around your belt (or use a
pocket watch holster):
Fashion is an expression of creativity, so use this post as inspiration to play around with mismatched stripes, harnesses and fun accessories.
